The School of Nursing in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at The University of Texas at Tyler (UT Tyler) invites applicants to apply for a full-time Clinical FNP Faculty position.  Salary commensurate with experience.  Position is available ASAP.  The position will remain open until filled.

Position of the Clinical Family Nurse Practitioner Faculty is one of facilitating FNP students’ clinical advanced practice education in a diverse, rural, underserved setting with limited resources at the assigned True North Academic-Clinical Partnership site. The Clinical FNP Faculty must facilitate maximum learning and frequent evaluation of students and provide hands-on training and feedback to ensure assigned students’ clinical competence, while coordinating these efforts with UT Tyler FNP Course Faculty and Clinic Leadership.

Job duties include, but are not limited to: Coordinate with the assigned True North Partnership Clinical site Clinical Liaison and UT Tyler. FNP course faculty to schedule students and patients in clinic. Assist FNP students to formulate clinical objectives for level in FNP program.

Review CPE expectations with assigned students. Assist student to obtain and record in EMR client’s health history and ensure that the student performs comprehensive physical assessment (including biological, social and psychological needs) as part of a total physical examination. Ensure students develop skills to diagnose, treat and plan appropriate health care for clients in the areas of primary health care, women’s health care, family planning, chronic disease management and primary care as appropriate; refers clients to physicians and/or outside agencies as required. Accesses telemedicine specialists for “curbside consults” as appropriate and assists students to utilize this venue for interdisciplinary care. Ensure students provides and prescribes medications as appropriate. Ensure students perform laboratory procedures and interprets lab test results. Provides case management services for select clients. Facilitates group, individual and community education other health concerns. Establishes and maintains client’s electronic medical records and other necessary records. Provides in-service education classes on assigned responsibilities for nursing/office staff.

Participates in and provides feedback on online didactic courses with UT Tyler FNP Course Faculty. Attends all faculty retreats/meetings and Quality Committee Meetings. Complete CPE’s as scheduled for students and provide feedback to students for improvement. Participates in rapid-cycle quality improvement process, as directed by Project Director. Performs other nursing and faculty duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in nursing, doctorate preferred; completion of a state acceptable Nurse Practitioner’s program; a minimum of one year’s experience is desirable. National certification in specialty is required. Experience precepting students, preferred. Bi-lingual Spanish preferred. Experience with telemedicine preferred.

Necessary special requirements: Licensed by the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse; certified by the State of Texas as a Family Nurse Practitioner; Prescriptive privileges; DEA.
